Youth Provision Across the Ward

When I was first elected there were no youth clubs in the ward – something I made a manifesto commitment to deliver.

Youth work helps build relationships with young people, builds confidence, improves mental health and wellbeing and helps to reduce anti-social behaviour – all positives for our communities.

The first youth club in Farsley opened in 2019 and is going from strength to strength.

Fridays, 4:30-6pm

The Calverley Youth Club opened in 2023, following delays caused by the pandemic, and over 20 young people turned up on the first session.

Calverley Mechanics Institute

Thursdays, 6:30-8:30pm

Following concerns about residents about antisocial behaviour in Hainsworth Park, Farsley we also currently have a mobile youth session that engages with young people in the park, encouraging them to attend the youth club provision and to build relationships with them.

We have worked with the youth service to move these sessions around as and when needed to provide facilities where there aren’t any, or to address specific concerns.

Cllr Craig Timmins and I are determined to do more to give young people in our area the best start, and to reduce the opportunities for antisocial behaviour in our communities – if you have any suggestions do let us know.
