Calverley Library update

Cllr Peter Carlill, and I had the opportunity today to take a tour of the newly relocated library at the Mechanics Institute ahead of it opening to the public next week.

The building was coming together really well inside and we think the progress made has been very positive. The level of natural light in both the main library and children’s library were very good and were able to chat with staff from the playgroup who were also happy with the project.

We had satisfactory assurances that all the groups that had previously used both buildings would still accommodated, many of whom have also started to be shown around. To these I would say, if you have any concerns please get in touch.

We have asked for a new community notice board to replace the current one at the front of the building and have been told this will be done and they are also looking at appropriate signage that complies with the conservation area. There will also be a traffic order being consulted on for new time restricted parking bays around the building.

The library will open next Monday, although there will be remedial works and finishing touches being put in place until March.
