Pothole Update

As you can imagine at this time of year reporting potholes and damaged road surfaces takes up a lot of time. This year is particularly bad, to give some context in a matter of weeks the number of reports has shot up from 30 to 300 a week.

We had prolonged heavy rainfall from December meaning water seeps into small cracks, weakens the road beneath, and traffic breaks the surface apart, creating potholes much faster than normal.

The council have therefore put every available team on fixing these.

These issues are not new to us, Cllr Peter Carlill, and I are consistently reporting them as part of our day to day routines. For instance we were grateful that we managed to get a same day repair on a particular dangerous pothole on Westdale Drive, after residents asked us to intervene and that Bagley Lane has been planned in after we lobbied for action. We are aware there are more to do, as we have reported many that are still outstanding. Next year we have put an additional £13m into fixing potholes in the recent Labour Group budget and will be investing £1m in capital into the purchase of new technology to fill potholes quicker and to a better standard.
