Late-night Fireworks

At our regular meeting with the police and other agencies this week, Cllr Craig Timmins and I again discussed the issue of late-night fireworks.

These have started again, and will no doubt only get worse as we move into summer.

This is listed as a ward priority for the local neighbourhood police team and following our calls last year they worked closely with counterparts in Bradford to try to reduce the issue, visiting, patrolling and monitoring venues suspected of being used.

There are restrictions in place at the major wedding venues, which mean customers will face financial penalties for fireworks and other antisocial behaviour, and at the times of the operations none of the fireworks reported came from the specific venues monitored.

In the meeting the police detailed some of the extent people have been going to, letting off fireworks in public spaces and nearby houses rather than the venues itself, and suspicion some are even hiring an AirBnB to let off fireworks from.

In order to get as much response to the issue as possible we would encourage people to continue to report these to the police using the details below – but most importantly to provide details of the location and/or direction to help identify specific locations used.

Without this information it is hard for the police to be able to identify the culprits.
